Pike scowled at his monitor as he closed the connection. His new XO was on
his way to the Enterprise, and Pike hadn't even been told the man's name. Gorton
had just smirked and said he suspected it "might be surprising".
The door chimed, and Pike pressed the admittance button, expecting Spock with a
report.
It was Spock, but behind him was... well, the most damnably fine woman Pike had
seen in some time.
"New yeoman?" Pike asked with a warm smile.
"No, sir," the woman answered, laying icy emphasis on the title.
"Your new First Officer."
Pike's jaw dropped.
